16570 Explorer II - A touch of DLC for a modern look. In 2021, I RSC'd my 20 something year old 16570. They did a great job. I contemplated switching to polar, but decided not to and kept the original lume-less dial and hands. For my second watch build, I went for the Rolex Explorer II with the white dial look. I’m not one to brag or to toot his own horn, but I think I did a pretty good job here, and I’m very happy about the final product. Has anyone seen this modification of an Explorer II polar dial, with the black GMT bezel? Generally, I think it’s a huge mistake to modify a Rolex or do anything that would compromise its value, but I have to say that I love the look of this configuration.
Rolex Explorer II Polar Dial Homage Build. For my second build, I went for the Rolex Explorer II Polar dial style, a watch that has peeked my interest as of late for its clean and distinguished look. This build is an homage of sort to this beautiful time piece. If you are looking for an Explorer II style bezel, e.g. brushed steel with black numbers, I'd highly recommend this one from Tokeilab. It's a 12hr bezel, which makes more sense to use in a mod unless you're using the new GMT movement. For our 6th entry into the Don't Feed the Hype series, here are 3 Rolex Explorer II alternatives you may want to look into.
